Blessed are the mothers who have an abundant supply of breastmilk. But there are times when you think that you have pumped too much that you end up with a lot of frozen breastmilk in your freezer. What can you do with the extra frozen breastmilk? Don’t just throw it all away. There are still so many things that you can make with breastmilk. If you don’t have any idea where to use it, here are some tips we would like to share with you.

It can save your baby during emergencies.

There are times when you suddenly have to go out, you can’t bring the baby and you have no time to pump some milk for him. Worry no more, your frozen breast milk can save you and your baby. Just tell your baby’s caregiver to warm the milk properly before the baby consumes it.

Use it as a milk substitute.

Kids love treats especially those that are made from their favorite – milk. But using breastmilk to prepare their favorite milk-based recipes can be yummier. You can make breastmilk ice cream out of it. Even older kids can enjoy the treat. You can also make a breastmilk smoothie by tossing it into a blender with your kids’ favorite fruits or even vegetables.

Do your babies need relief from the pain of teething? You can make a popsicle out of breast milk. That’s a healthier option than frozen teething toys. You can make it as is or you can be mixed in some chopped fruits or vegetables for a yummier treat. It does not only cure pain, but it can also serve as a yummy snack during humid days.

Want to serve cereals for your baby? Baby cereal is rich in iron and can also help babies to gain weight. You don’t need water or processed milk if you have a stash of breastmilk as you can use it as a substitute. Breastmilk can also be used in making pancakes while others go as far as using it in preparing macaroni and cheese.

Use it as a kids’ drink.

Instead of giving kids soda and artificial juices, you can give them breastmilk in sippy cups as a healthier substitute.

Donate.

There are mothers who cannot produce adequate milk for their babies. Those can be your friends or relatives too. You can do a noble act and donate your abundance. You can also contact some organizations that accept donations of breastmilk to support other babies in need.

Use it as a milk bath.

What are the benefits of breastmilk bath on babies? It moisturizes the skin. Breastmilk is rich in fatty acids that help to lock in the moisture in the skin to prevent dryness leaving the skin soft and smooth. It can also cure a diaper rash and skin irritation on children.

Aside from milk bath, it can also be made into breastmilk lotion and soap for babies. Breastmilk soap is believed to be effective for curing eczema.

Breastmilk can be an effective home remedy.

It is believed that breastmilk, with the right temperature, can cure kids’ red, swollen eyes. A stuffy nose can also be decongested with breastmilk. It is a much gentler option than saline drops. Breastmilk bath is also believed to heal sunburn and small wounds.

Always remember that storing breastmilk should be done properly to keep it fresh. If kept frozen, breastmilk will not spoil for more than six months. Always remember to thaw and reheat it properly before use. Do the necessary precautions to be safe. So now, every time you have a lot of extra frozen breastmilk,  you already know what to do with it.
